Muringakka (Drumstick) Theeyal

" The grass is always greener on the other side of the fence".goes a popular proverb.How true!!Health concious people,who are busy counting calories nd spending fortune on expensive foodstuffs,hardly spare a thought to the Drumstick,the tree which is a very common sight in our Indian homes.The drum stick leaves are most nutritious and hence worth including in one's diet. But here Im sharing a dish using the drum stick which is my MIL's special..It is like normal theeyal..Very Tasty..Hope u enjoy it!!!


Drumstick - 2ns (cut lengthwise)
Shallots - 5 or 6 ( cut lengthwise)
Green chillies - 4 nos
Shredded coconut - 1 cup
Dried red chillies - 2
Turmeric pdr - 1/2 tsp
Chilli pdr - 1 1/2 tsp
Coriande pdr - 2 tsp
Tamarind juice -2 tbs
Mustard seeds - 1 tsp
Oil - 2 tsp
Curry leaves and salt to taste.
Preparation:
1. Boil drumsticks along with shallots and add turmeric pdr and little salt,
2. Heat a pan and fry coconut in low flame till brown.
3. Once the coconut is brown in color,add chilli powder and coriander pdr and stir till the raw smell of the powder goes.
4. Grind it to fine paste.
5. Add this paste in to the boiled drumstick and stir well.It should neither be too watery and nor thick.
6. Add the tamarind juice and allow to boil.When u get the desired consistency remove from flame.
7. Splutter mustard seeds with dried red chillies and few curry leaves. And pour it over the curry.
    Curry is ready.Serve hot with rice and pappad.
