Pidi and Kozhi curry(Rice Dumplings & Chicken Stew)
Pidi with Kozhi curry is one of the most delicious food in Kerala. My mom used to make this dish for Sunday break fast :-) Pidi means small rice balls or dumplings made with Rice and coconut..You can serve it with chicken curry..Here I made chicken curry in Coconut milk...This is an easy and tasty dish...Here it goes!!!
For making Pidi :
Rice flour- 1 cup.
Water - 1 1/2 cups. (or as reqd to make the dough).
Shredded Coconut-1/4 cup.
Cumin seeds - 1 tsp.
Garlic - 2 pods.
Salt to taste.
Preparation :
Grind Coconut with cumin seeds and garlic pods to make a fine paste.. Boil 1 1/2 cups water.Mix the grinded coconut mixture and the rice flour with enough salt using the boiled water to make fine dough ( like chppati dough)..Make small balls with dough...Heat a pan or kadai..Pour 3-4 cups of water( Or required water to boil the dumplings)..When the water starts boiling,put all the rice balls in to it..Let it boil for 3-5 mins.Mix well..Allow it to cool..Serve with Chicken curry..
For making Chicken stew :
Chickn - 1 lb.( cut in small pieces.)
Onion - 1. (Thinly sliced )
Potato - 2 nos.( cut in cubes)
Green chillies -4 nos.
Ginger - 1 tsp .
Garlic - 2 pods.
Coconut milk - 1 cup.
Cloves - 4 nos.
Turmeric powder - 1/4 tsp.
Garam masala- 1/2 tsp.
Chilli powder - 1/2 tsp.
Coriander powder - 1/2 tsp.
Few curry leaves and salt to taste.
Preparation :
Marinate chicken pieces with chilli powder,coriander powder and salt.Boil in a pressure cooker with very little water and keep it aside.Cook potato..Heat oil in a pan .Put ginger,garlic,green chillies and cloves.Saute well.Put chopped onions with salt and curry leaves..Saute till the onions get cooked...When it is done,add the potato and mix well.Put turmeric powder and garam masala.Mix well for 3 mins. Then put the chicken pieces and saute well..Add little water if needed..Finally pour the coconut milk..Stir continuously for 2 mins..Adjust salt.Put few curry leaves..Transfer the curry to a serving bowl...Enjoy with Pidi !!!
